Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every morning we start off the day with greeting each child individually as they arrive. We want children to believe in themselves and know that they are all very important in our hearts. We want them to enjoy school and know that they are loved.
Our classroom is a Preschool Special Day Class serving children 3-5 years old with special needs.
We are determined to provide an enriching environment for children to learn in fun and loving ways. A lot of our children are learning to communicate. We work very hard to create a language rich environment where children are encouraged to communication throughout the school day using different modality. We believe all children are precious, and it is our goal to help them develop to their full potentials.
My Project
The Picture Exchange Communication System is an approach that helps children communicate with others through the use of pictures. with the Velcro, laminating pouches and card stocks, we can create all kind of pictures for the children as needed. For our children who have a hard time understanding what is said to them, visual pictures provide a great tool to help them understand.
Struggling to express oneself creates a lot of frustration.
With the help of pictures, children are able to express themselves or understand others. Being able to communicate with others helps children develop a higher self-esteem and helps children strives in all other areas.
