My Project
My students are amazing! They are eager to learn and participate in new activities, however lack of experiences and materials will hold them back. They have a difficult time connecting with traditional books and curriculum. So everything needs adapted and made durable so that they can practice thier skills every day.
My students are 5 to 14 years old but are all functioning on preschool level academically.
All of my students have limited social skills and have significant language deficit in expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language skills. My students are often frustrated because they cannot communicate their needs and wants. Many times they struggle to keep up with the other students because they do not speak and cannot participate in the same ways. I work tremendously hard to expose them to as many experiences within my means, however this is getting harder and harder.
My students are diagnosed with intellectual disability and autism. They learn and respond positively to curriculum that is visual, kinesthetic and allows them to practice their skills repeatedly.
I am requesting materials that will be used to construct book with illustrations and symbols to help students understand the contents of the curriculum. My students will learn to match words to pictures in age appropriate books through their day. They will take pictures of their environment to include in thier curriculum and help them construct thier own learning and connect with the curriculum.
