This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing children who are motivated to do well in all subject areas. They attend the oldest school in California and are joyful, carefree second graders from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Our school's focus is on Literacy and Science.
These incredible second graders love to learn and deserve to be safe, active, and happy children!
In addition, these students need to be prepared for the future. Our science-focused school wants to engage these young minds in science exploration through literature, art, and hands-on fun.
We want our students to be the future leaders in science and technology by engaging them with hands-on activities and fostering a love of science and inquiry in a collaborative environment.
My Project
My second grade students love to work together on various hands-on projects, but they must sit at old-fashioned desks that do not fit their little bodies. We are fortunate enough to have new chairs, but these chairs do not fit under the desks we have. The students' learning is hindered by the unmatched, uncomfortable, and extremely heavy desks!
My students also need space to work collaboratively; the desks that we are asking for allow students to turn and discuss or to work independently depending on how they are situated.
Moreover, these 21st century desks would fit nicely with our 21st century chairs!
