Communicating With Confidence - Learning From Julia Cook Literature
My students need access to books written by Julia Cook to help them become better versions of themselves. Titles such as "Making Friends Is An Art" teach students how to embrace their differences and build relationships.
My first grade classroom is a place for hands-on discovery. The students succeed through an EL Education model. All children are taught to focus on the quality of their work and character. This is done through questioning, creating, testing, and exploring their own ideas.
Although my students come from many different backgrounds, they come to school everyday excited to learn!
Because of our rural setting, most students ride the bus for over forty-five minutes each morning. Over sixty percent of these children qualify for the free or reduced food program.
My Project
My first grade students love learning through literature. I have found over the years that taking time throughout the day to sit down for a read-aloud helps students in many ways. Not only are they learning the lesson of the story, they're learning to visualize, along with expanding their vocabulary.
Julia Cook writes stories that teach students how to build relationships and communicate with confidence, helping them to become better versions of themselves.
"Bubble Gum Head" shows students how stretching their mind will build their growth mindset. "Soda Pop Head" gives students strategies to work through anger and other emotions. Julia's other books touch on acceptable behavior in the classroom, taking risks, apologizing, hygiene, safety and table manners all things I have seen my first graders struggle with over the years. I am positive that this set of Julia Cook books will help all of my students become successful inside and outside the classroom.
