My students need high interest books that offer content to learn how to communicate socially within their classrooms while providing a platform to develop the language skills needed to answer text-based questions.
My students all have communication delays and disorders that make learning and communicating an everyday challenge. These challenges also include understanding and using social language. To teach them the language skills they need to access text based questions and allow them to develop social communication skills they need high interest and academic based social skills books. This project will help support my highly motivated 2nd to 5th grade students who are hungry to find academic success in their classrooms and be an effective communicator in their social and academic settings.
My Project
The students I work with have a variety of speech and language delays and disorders that prevent them from accessing the curriculum in their classrooms. For all of my students, these books will offer them a highly stimulable text to learn both effective pragmatic skills and continue to develop their ability answer high level text based questions.
This collection of books will be used to teach my students how to "communicate with confidence." The collection of books target important skills such as accepting feedback, mindset, taking responsibility of one's learning, learning to hear "no", sharing and teamwork.
Learning these skills will increase my students ability to be effective communicators within their classrooms. They will also be used as platforms to develop the language skills necessary to answer high level text-based questions.
