Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have special needs, and many of them are non-verbal and need modified materials to communicate and participate in lessons. They enjoy being able to participate in lessons beside their verbal peers by engaging in literature activities. I enjoy seeing the excitement on their faces when they are working together with their peers to explore the world of books. Even my youngest students can benefit from the pre-linguistic skills that books can offer them. The social skills they develop, such as turn taking with peers, will continue with them as they continue to grow and explore.
My Project
My favorite activities are when I can bring literature and communication together. Books allow my students to explore and learn about the world and people around them. Creating lessons that include a book and an activity that connects with current topics or curriculum provides my students with hands on learning opportunities. Even my youngest students can benefit from the pre-linguistic skills that board and tactile books offer them.
Having a large library of books provides me with ability to create a wide-array of lesson plans that cover a range of topics.
This allows me and my students to learn and explore together through books.
