I have 28 ten and eleven years who I teach every day.

Research shows that by fifth grade the percentage of kids that are frequent readers—those who read books for fun five to seven days a week— drops to 28%.

I want my students to fall back into love with reading!

My Project

Book Clubs are a great way to get students reading and talking about books. My students had a chance to preview 10 books and decide which book they wanted to read in a small book club. The votes are in! We are having Book Clubs with these novels: The Terrible Two, The One and Only Ivan, Bob, and The Wild Robot.

Book Clubs are beginning in February for my students.

Each club is a small group, four students to a club. The children will be reading, reflecting, discussing, and doing their job for the day. The jobs include: Editor, Illustrator, Publisher and Translator. These jobs give the students the chance to expand vocabulary and visualize the plot.
