This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into the classroom every day eager to learn and ready to redefine themselves as scholars, mathematicians, scientists, artists, writers, archaeologists, and engineers. They make great strides in speaking their first sentences, learning to successfully go to the bathroom, mainstreaming into their general education classrooms, and mastering life skills to live as independently as possible. They love collaborating with their peers, using technology to support their learning, uncovering methods to retain knowledge, and modeling traits of democratic citizens to become leaders in their school. Our school, a Title I, is a part of a nationwide program that serves students who come from low-income families.
Despite the many challenges that these students face, my students know that my high expectations for them do not waiver.
I continue to challenge my students to become contributors to society and know that greatness is oozing out of all of them.
My Project
As students are coming out of distance learning, most students have regressed due to having limited resources at home. The gift cards for Teachers Pay Teachers help me buy curriculum that is specific to my students’ needs. Resources include digital worksheets, lesson plans, assessments, projects, Google apps, etc. Having students in 5 different grade levels, requires me to obtain curriculum that meets multiple state standards. Office machines such as the comb binding machine, secure device charging storage, and shredder helps me keep comply with COVID-19 regulations by reducing the need to share commonly used items and limit movement to other areas of the school.
Some of my students are not able to engage with the traditional paper and pencil activities as their disability impacts their physical and cognitive abilities.
My students require more hands-on activities to work on their fine motor skills. Folder games, pocket charts, and activity mats help me engage students by using interactive materials.
Organization materials and safety measures are necessary to keep my students feel at ease in the classroom as they’re amid chaos. Sadly, students will still have to maintain social distancing by keeping 3-6 ft. away from staff (including myself) and peers. To enforce this policy, my students will each need their own book totes, school supplies, and work area.
