My Students

My students are energetic, inquisitive, and love their school! They thrive in a learning environment that encourages them to take risks, try new things, and work through mistakes and failures. Many come from diverse backgrounds and homes that often do not afford the opportunity to experience the world outside of their own neighborhood. School offers them a gateway to the world beyond the neighborhood and the walls of the classroom.

The library is a place where they can experience books, technology, and challenges that broaden their perspectives and teach them critical thinking and problem solving.

For this reason, it is important for the library to have a diverse collection of books and makerspace materials readily available to students from pre-k through fifth grade. Activities that allow them synthesize what they read and learn help them to discover and create on their own. These small steps in learning and probelem solving energize them and give them the motivation and interest they need to work through new and difficult skills and concepts. With a lot of love and a little support, these students can do anything!

My Project

Graphic novels is one of the most popular genres of books for elementary aged children. The comic books style and illustrations add visual appeal and make reading more accessible to young or struggling readers. I would like to augment my nonfiction graphic novel collection to provide these highly visual resources to help make science literature fun and inviting.

Science Comics is a great elementary appropriate science series that offers books on a variety of high interest topics of young readers.

Your donations will help my students develop a love of reading and learning that will stick with them for the rest of their lives.
