Help me give my students visually, stimulating books that will help increase their comprehension. The graphic novels and pictures from the comics will especially help my ESL students. However, all students will love Greek Mythology in a comic.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I teach are all under-served, inner-city, minority students of many backgrounds. While most are of Hispanic descent, we serve a small population of Muslim or Middle Eastern, African American, Asian, and Anglo. Our students come from distressed socioeconomic and impoverished areas, still, they have never let this be a barrier for success. Many of our students have met standards, attained high gains and excelled at levels not expected by this population. Believe it or not, our little school is the jewel in the rough that outshines them all!
My Project
As most reading and writing teachers, I have an immense love for reading books of all kinds. In our classrooms, we continue to strive for our students to have the same appreciation of reading. However, in our challenging times, where a social media post draws our student's attention more than a winner of a Newberry winning novel, I must think outside the box. I decided that my love for comic books is a way to bring their attention back to reading.
Give me a Picture Book or a Graphic Novel and then I'll tell you the story.
This statement relates to struggling readers and ESL students all the same. If you can make reading visually stimulating, then more students will want to read. I hope I can encourage my love for reading through a Comic book. As long as students are reading - period, eventually, you will build background knowledge and comprehension.
