My Students

My students come from very diverse backgrounds and attend a school that focuses on project-based learning. As such, they are accustomed to working on collaborative projects and taking deep dives into several areas of our curriculum, including literature, history, and art.

My students are at a dynamic age; they inquisitively view the world through lenses that are both curious and magical.

As their teacher, I am constantly exploring new ways to keep them enthusiastically engaged in all that we do. They always bring a lot to the table and never cease to amaze me.

My Project

For this project, I'm requesting graphic novels for our classroom library. First, I'm requesting the Complete Maus, which is a classic allegory about WWII. It is often read in high school classes, but I would like to have it available to my middle school students who need something more accessible that a textbook. Next, I'm requesting two copies of Ms. Marvel volume 5 (I already have the other four). This is an OWN VOICE story that follows an up and coming superhero and she encounters evil super villains, but also the pitfalls of teenage life. Lastly, I'm requesting Black Panther vol. 2 (I already have volume 1). This is also an OWN VOICE novel, that mostly takes places in the fictional West African nation of Wakanda.

I believe that graphic novels open doors to literary world that are otherwise inaccessible.
