This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a third grade teacher in an urban school setting. Many of my students speak Spanish at home. They do not have as much support from family as students in a suburban community might have. My school does not have enough money to fund many of the supplies teachers need in order to be effective in the classroom.
During writer's workshop it is hard to get some students to write anything at all. Sometimes being so close to other students is a distraction. Not all students can do their best writing this way. I like, and my students like, to spread out around the room during writing time, but it is hard when students do not have anything to write on. Writing tends to be messy and papers get crumpled. I don't have the right materials to allow them to do this. Also, when my students spread out around the room most sit on a hard concrete floor. I know this doesn't make writing any easier.
In order to let my students find cozy spots to neatly write around the room, I am in need of 20 classroom clipboards and 2 comfy beanbag chairs. These materials will entice students during writing time. They will be excited to use their own clipboards and will love being able to sit comfortably on any floor space in the room. The beanbag chairs will also help during independent reading time.
