Help me give my students comfortable, durable and safe cots to take naps. The cots are compliant with the Covid-19 health-safety regulations because they are easy to sanitize and they do not touch each other when stored.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school, located in Boston's South End, is a K-8 dual language immersion school. At our school, 72 % of students receive free or reduced price lunch, 74% of the students are Hispanic. Our mission is to graduate students who can perform academically at proficient levels in Spanish and English.
My K1 classroom is the first learning experience students have in both languages.
We sing songs, recite poems, and read books in Spanish. That being said, we do not have many resources in Spanish in our classroom. Many books and materials need to be translated. For equity of both languages, it would be wonderful if my classroom library had just as many books in Spanish as in English.
My Project
We are facing a un-conventional school year because of Covid-19. My preschoolers each need to have their own working area with some degree of separation from other students. At the moment I do not have enough tables to provide this separation for all students. The round table I am asking for will offer one of my students a work space which is a safe distance from other students.
The early childhood curriculum requires all four year old students to take a nap during the school day.
One of the new health-safety regulations in all preschool classrooms is that nap mats/cots cannot touch each other when they are stored at the end of the day. The cots also need to be made of an easily sanitized material. The old sleeping mats that we have been using will not work this year. The cots that I am asking for will meet the health-safety regulations, and minimize the amount of time needed for cleaning and storage. This would provide my students with a comfortable and safe place to nap. I would be very grateful if you can provide my 25 students with these cots and this table for their classroom.
