The students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative. There is a variety of student abilities in my class ranging from English language learners to special needs. Books are so important to my students and are truly valued. I am a third grade teacher in an impoverished urban area. Our school does not have a librarian so my class library is an essential resource for my students. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on my class library to check out high-quality books. Students need to be exposed to the many different genres of reading. Each day students engage in independent and partner reading and I would love to create a home environment in my class library and class. There is a buzz about books and an excitement for reading in my class.
My students need the opportunity for enjoyable reading by using different types of flexible seating. Hopefully they will have opportunities to get comfortable and read while sitting on bean bag chairs, portable chairs, cushions, stools, wobble discs and a balance ball.
My students will find reading more enjoyable and begin to read more for pleasure while using flexible seating.
This will help increase their knowledge and their levels. Helping students begin to learn that reading is fun is a perfect way to build better readers. My students will love sitting in the different types of flexible seating while reading independently.
