My Students
My students are a wonderful group of 6-7 year old first graders (some with special needs). Daily, they experience the joy and discovery of independent reading! These first graders spend time everyday in the classroom fostering their reading skills both individually and in groups. Readers of every level reinforce learned skills as they choose books of their liking to find a comfortable place in the classroom and explore what books have to offer them!
I want my all my students to make a lifelong connection between comfort and reading!
This connection forms the foundation for all future learning. In a classroom with a diverse special needs population and many levels of student ability and achievement, this project can and will effect all!
My Project
In this day of digital entertainment it becomes challenging to motivate students to pick up a book. This is especially true for emerging or struggling readers who may not associate reading with joy and satisfaction. With the beanbags chairs I hope to motivate the unmotivated to willingly pick up a book.
My goal is for students to associate comfort with reading.
Reading success is directly correlated to reading hours and I'm certain that with the beanbags individual reading hours will increase! I want my students to be successful readers and the connection they make with reading and comfort will last a lifetime!
