My Project

Hello there,

I have been teaching early elementary for about 6 years and will be moving up to upper elementary, 5th grade, for the 2024-2025 school year.

As an early elementary teacher, I have always had comfy spaces for the students to retreat to when necessary. While moving to 5th grade, I know that the students will have more to deal with daily. From a more challenging curriculum, to pre-teen developments, and not to forget the coolness factor. So it is my goal to create a homey space in which the students will feel safe to take accountability for their own learning. My goal is to create this space through flexible seating and cool color decorations. The rug will go perfectly with a sofa that I will bring from home, and the two-floor seats match the two I already have in my classroom. The floor lamps will allow me to change the lighting as needed to support students.

The mailbox will be used as comments, questions, and "I need help with this but am too embarrassed to raise my hand/ tell you" box. It will be placed in the library and students are encouraged to put their named OR anonymous letters and notes in there for me to find every Friday. This, I am confident will lend a hand to stronger rapport between myself and my scholars, which will result in more productive learning in our classroom.

I am very excited about this move to 5th grade, especially since the incoming scholars will be the scholars I had the privilege to teach while they were in Kindergarten.
