My Students
My students are special because they are all so eager to share life tidbits. Eager to listen to me read to them, motivated to develop understanding of the card catalog to find an interesting book, and keen on helping fellow students find books when the skill has been mastered. All for one and one for all seems to be their underlying belief.
All students, kindergarten through fourth grade visit the library every week.
To see the excitement on student's faces and hear it in their voices when they find just the right book, fills my heart up!
My Project
In addition to the new tables and chairs my library received through DonorsChoose, I would like to offer students comfy, flexible seating to encourage more engagement in reading. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. My students do an excellent job looking for books that interest them by using the card catalog, searching for books on the shelf using the Dewey Decimal System and checking books out.
Offering comfy, cozy flexible seating will help students be more engaged in reading the materials they've worked so hard to find.
When I reflect on my home and how my family loves to read, it always involves choices and what is comfortable for that moment. Growing readers, sharing the joy of reading and creating life-long learners begins with choices. I'd love to offer my students choices of a comfy spot to read as well as a wide variety of books!
