This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school community is located in a high-poverty area and the school is a safe haven for my students. The students in my classroom face many challenges on a daily basis and this year is no different. Last school year my students were learning remotely from home. This year they are excited to be back in the classroom. At times, they will still utilize an online classroom and I want them to stay focused and excited to let the daily adventures begin.

Students look forward to sharing their knowledge in all subjects as well as learning new things each and every day.

Engagement and focus are keywords in our changing learning environment. I am so proud of the effort the students make every day despite everything that they have experienced in their young lives.

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to make a choice for a comfortable learning environment. Due to COVID restrictions in the classroom, we have lost the space needed for our carpet for whole group seating. Students currently sit at their desks for long periods of time each day.

These floor cushions will allow students to leave their seats and sit comfortably on the floor.

Students will be able to grab their cushions and sit near or under their desks while they complete independent work. At times, all desks can be moved to the side and students can sit in a circle on the cushion and not on the floor. The dry erase clipboards will give students a hard writing surface for them to use in whole group, small group, or independent work.
