Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

CPS have had some troubling times the past few years. I know that I would give anything to my students to make their days and years easier and less troubling in this challenging time and place. I work in a CPS where 97% of the students are on free and reduced lunch.

My students come from an urban area and a public school where the majority are facing the monumental challenges of poverty.

While my school has approximately 500 students, the community is extremely tight knit and I feel lucky to work with these individuals. My students are unique and genuinely are excited to learn. They have grown tremendously in the past few years despite the challenges they face daily. I am excited to continue to add to their knowledge and change their lives for the better.

My Project

I have been teaching for 10 years in urban areas. A lot of the students I teach do not have even a table to do their homework on. They might have to share a bed with a sibling, or might be sleeping on the couch. I understand how important it is to have your own comfy place to think and learn. For the past years I have outfitted my classroom library with comfy chairs and stuffed animals to help my students feel comfortable and happy. As with any furniture, the wear and tear can be taxing. At the end of the school year last year I decided our "comfy chairs" as the students call them, needed to be replaced. That is where YOU come in!

Help me make my classroom the comfiest, and most "chill" place for my students!

Help me make my classroom the comfiest, and most "chill" place for my students! One of the greatest joys I get as a teacher is seeing my students engaged in their reading, getting lost in a book while laying comfortably in the classroom library. Seeing my students faces light up when it's their "comfy chair" day is so awesome! Please help us make our classroom the best it can be!
