My Students

My classroom is a place where a lively blend of first and second-grade students from a variety of backgrounds come together to build community and learn in a safe, welcoming place. 48% of the students at our school come from economically disadvantaged families. Many are dealing with trauma in their lives. Eleven languages are represented in our population. Meeting the needs of this diverse group of learners requires creativity, flexibility, and love. The space in our classroom is small, but our hearts are big and our potential to learn and grow is huge!

My Project

Primary students like to spread out in the classroom. We don't like to sit at our tables all day long for learning -in fact, when we do we get very distracted and noisy. Our teacher purchased lap desks so that some of us can work on the floor when we want to, and we sit on the floor in our classroom library to read books. We even meet on the floor for small reading groups. The problem is that the floor is cold, hard tile. You get the idea.

With something warm and comfortable to sit on when we're spread out in the classroom, or having a reading group meeting on the floor, we'd be able to work so much harder.

Distraction of cold, uncomfortable bottoms, be gone! These small cushions would be the perfect solution for us! We love to have flexible seating available to meet our needs to move and be in different positions as we learn.
