Creativity, imagination, problem solving, and collaboration are key components to authentic learning in our classroom. I have high expectations for every student. It is my responsibility to provide a variety of learning opportunities to help each child meet or exceed their goals. Our school is a K-2 school with approximately 1,000 children enrolled.
We have a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds, a growing ELL population, a high percentage of students who need accelerated learning opportunities, and students who need reading and math interventions to help them establish a firm foundation for successful learning.
My Project
My students need a comfortable couch and chair for our collaboration station learning area. After researching and watching how kids learn best, I have learned they work their hardest when they are comfortable and when they can collaborate to solve problems.
Children have different learning and physical needs when it comes to learning.
Aside from the traditional school desks and chairs, students need another learning space to work together.
This new couch and chair will provide an area to encourage student engagement and help them to stay focused which results in higher achievement. It will help ADHD, autistic and other special needs' kids, develop a sense of community and independence because they can move to a more comfortable learning space.
