This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a high poverty school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students are thoughtful and enthusiastic learners.
They come to class each day eager to see their school family and tackle academic challenges. I am constantly amazed by their ingenuity and desire to be better than they were yesterday.
In my classroom, we focus on becoming learners, not just learning material. Hopefully, the skills they acquire are ones that will benefit them throughout their academic journey.
My Project
For many of my students school is the one constant thing in their lives. They show up every day and deserve a place that doesn't feel cold and sterile.
My goal is to make school a safe place where they can express themselves and learn to strive for their full potential.
Ensuring their classroom is a warm and inviting place is one way to achieve this.
The harsh overhead lights have all of our eyes aching by the end of the day. On sunny days I am able to turn on a few lamps and turn off the big lights, but this doesn't work unless the sun is shining. If I had a couple of more lamps, we could say good-bye to the big lights!
In our new socially distanced classroom, having a few rugs for students to sit on and work will help get them out of their seats. The students love any excuse to sit on the floor!
All of these items would go a long way in making my students feel at home in their classroom.
