My Students

We are a multicultural classroom. The majority of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches. We have a large population of migrant students from various places. The largest group is students from Somalia. For some of our students, this is their first time going to school in America.

Many of our students are trauma-impacted, low-income students.

These students view school as their safe place and a place where they can be themselves. We have a very supportive community that is built mostly of refugees.

My Project

My students are very active learners. I do my best to accommodate their learning. I use VR headsets to bring certain lessons to life for them. The safest way for them to use the VR headsets is for them to sit on a couch (the armrests keep them from falling and the cushions keep it soft. They also like to sit on the couch to take some notes.

Making students feel safe and comfortable is a key to helping them learn.

We are also looking for a vacuum to help keep the carpet clean under the couch.
