Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first grade students are native Cantonese speakers that develop high levels of English and academic competency in Cantonese. Most of my students come from immigrant families where English is their second language, as well as students who are qualified for Special Education services. As a school, we have limited funding for supplies and academic materials.
Our students come from all walks of life - ready to learn and thrive in an academic setting.
Our school community is a wonderful and safe place to ask questions, explore, and share. As an educator, I hope to provide all students with the best learning experiences as possible to be confident in reading, writing, and exploring using high-quality materials that every student deserves.
My Project
In the classroom, there will be different ways of sitting and learning taking place as opposed to the traditional chair and desk to utilize the most of their learning time and allow them to focus longer. Students will be able to get up from their seats and move to a space where we can all come together as a community to share our stories and ideas. I hope to create a safe and comfortable place in the classroom where my first graders can gather for group instruction and create a sense of belonging with one another.
With a cozy and inviting rug, it will allow the students to start the morning in a positive way, engaged in content and actively learning from the beginning of the day.
Your generous donation will help provide a new teacher in a new classroom with a warm and inviting space where my first graders can come together and thrive in the classroom setting for many years to come.
The classroom rug will create an additional option for flexible seating when they begin independent work. During rug time, we share stories, "do the calendar," review our daily schedule, and have mini lessons for reading and writing workshop. In addition, it will also allow the kids to learn self regulation, improve posture, and develop spatial awareness!
