My Students
Our students are Scholars. They are provided a safe space to take risks, be vulnerable, and develop a sense of childhood curiosity and wonder.
They are thirsty for knowledge, eager to please, and desperately want to be better at "school." We have worked so very hard to cultivate a strong culture of learning that I can honestly say that their drive for success is inspirational.
They have endless energy and enormous hearts!
Our Scholars are innocent, kindred spirits who deserve so much more than what our society has given them. For many of our students, their future relies solely on their experiences in our school. Regardless of the unthinkable barriers that our scholars experience outside of our four walls, they know that our belief in them will never waver.
My Project
Children thrive on structure and routine to navigate their days. In the world on COVID 19, so much of that predictability and consistency has unfortunately disappeared. Additionally, their friends are far, far away and the notion of "school" has changed drastically. It is not only the fear of illness that is causing anxiety for our students - living through a global pandemic has caused a vast range of emotional triggers that we are only beginning to understand.
One source of comfort in any kind of crisis is a good story.
Picture books are an excellent tool to offer relevant, timely, meaningful lessons for social and emotional learning. Stories provide an opportunity for students to connect with characters who are facing similar emotional challenges and to find comfort in their struggle. This opens the door for meaningful dialog about our struggles and a chance to reflect on our experiences and adjust our mindset.
Stories can help soothe students who are worried about the world that we live in right now. Your donation will provide access to titles that specifically address many of the negative emotions that the vast majority of our students are grappling with right now!
