I teach at a Title I school in Bedford County, Shelbyville, Tennessee. We are a small town in middle Tennessee. My class is a diverse group of children with a wide range of abilities. My school is made up of over 95% of students who receive free or reduced price lunches. About 32% of my students are English language learners, but none of these obstacles deter them!
As with most kindergarten students, my kids come into school eager to learn, and curious about the world around them; and like little sponges, they soak in all the information they can.
They are enthusiastic, and creative, and willing to work hard to meet my expectations. My students deserve the best education I can provide for them, and that includes the best environment, the best resources, and the best experiences that I am able to provide for them. I am proud to teach each of them.
My Project
Currently, my classroom is made up of a hodge-podge of various tables and chairs. They are old and unstable, as some no longer have the pads on the bottom of the legs, which makes them uneven and they move as students are trying to write.
It is so important for kindergartners to have a stable, hard surface to write on, which provides needed friction that in turn allows for muscle memory to develop, and improves handwriting.
I am asking for a table and six chairs that will allow ample work space for my students and encourage face to face conversations during group work.
