Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come to my resource classroom with a diverse set of unique learning strengths and challenges. Being comfortable in their environment is a major factor for supporting my students as they overcome their learning challenges. My project aims to provide tools that increase engagement and comfortability in their learning environment to help fill learning gaps caused by their internal and external obstacles. Flexible seating gives students choice and motivation for engaging in lessons.

My students are resilient in overcoming the challenges their learning needs and COVID-19 have presented to them.

COVID-19 has impacted the learning of my students by challenging their sense of comfortability and security in their lives. They are now dealing with recovering the joy of learning in a safe environment while also developing strategies necessary for bridging the gaps their disabilities have created. The goal of my project is to recreate this comfortability to support my resilient, unique learners.

The resources from my project will support my student's sense of comfortability in their learning environment, as well as their social skills outside of it. The standing desks, wobble stools, and foot rests provide great choices for my students and increase focus and engagement in lessons. Many of my students have disabilities that create a need for movement and escape from the typical student seating. Similarly, many of my students benefit and seek out fidgets to support their need for movement while they engage in lessons. These fidgets and stickers are also productive tools I use in my classroom store to motivate my students' learning and behavior. My students with social skills needs will benefit from the conversation cards and allow them to share their interests and learn from their peers' interests.
