My Project

Seven years ago, I began a new chapter in my teaching career and moved from teaching general education after eleven years to teaching self-contained special education. A self-contained class has 12 students with much more intense needs. Once I started teaching this population of children, I knew I had found my calling.

Along with educational needs, my students have a variety of sensory issues, which make sitting down to learn a major issue.

Having differentiated seating options for my students is a huge priority in my classroom. I find it extremely important to make my classroom a space where everyone feels welcome, all students feel supported regardless of their needs, and they are comfortable in their learning environment.

I have really found over the last seven years that when a child feels comfortable, they are more able to open their mind to learning and exploring their unique abilities. This project will allow my students to have more options for comfort, and in turn will lead to more growth.
