My students need a place where they can learn to read and listen to stories independently or with a friend, including a couch, read-alongs, and CD player.
My students are creative, clever, and very spontaneous. They like to move. They love to read, and they love interactive games. The students in my classroom are all English Language learners. Despite the language barriers, my students are eager to learn and do their best. Meeting the individual needs of 3 and four year olds who come from different socioeconomic, cultural and religious backgrounds can be one of the toughest challenges of all. However, loving each and every one of their personalities and smiling faces makes it extremely easy.
My Project
Reading and listening to stories provides room for mental growth. While reading, children are enhancing their skills in vocabulary, as well as listening skills. I want my students to be able to sit and listen to their favorite stories during their free choice time. A listening center, as well as new couches will encourage my students to read more. Because they are not reading yet, being able to listen to their favorite stories without assistance, will enrich their love for books.
Listening centers can provide an opportunity for children to hear their favorite books read aloud again and again.
The more they listen, the greater the likelihood that they will learn new vocabulary words. And, when listening with a special friend, the opportunities for playing creatively and acting out parts of the story are endless.
