Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Creating a comfortable and relaxing space for my students is essential, especially during counseling sessions or when they’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed. This calm room will be a safe, welcoming environment filled with soft lighting, bean bag chairs, and soothing decor where students can take a break, process their emotions, and feel supported. It’s a place where they can step away from stress and regain their sense of balance.
Having access to a calming, safe space is incredibly important for students’ emotional and academic well-being.
When students feel safe and supported, they are better able to focus, engage in learning, and perform academically. The ability to take a short break when needed helps students return to class more regulated, attentive, and ready to absorb information.
Including small snacks in the calm room adds another layer of comfort and care. Sometimes, a quick snack and a quiet moment are all a student needs to feel grounded again. By creating this space, I’m helping students manage their mental health in a positive way, ultimately supporting their success both emotionally and academically.
