I am starting a new year with an excited group of 2nd graders. This year's class is made up of a group that comes from a rural area. We are a Title I school which means over half of our students come from low income homes.
I will have a volunteer coming in twice a week to read or listen to children, and she has done so for the last two years.
This year's class is adventurous and eager to become knowledgeable in all areas.
My Project
This rug will give all students a shared space, learning space, and just a space to relax and feel comfortable. This area will be used daily as we have a 20-minute read-aloud time, a 20-minute read to yourself time and a 10- to 20-minute morning meeting time.
Children need movement and time to learn in a comfortable place rather than at a desk.
Space to lay down and just get comfortable is always appreciated. This will help keep them off the hard, cold floor all while helping to keep them better engaged during reading and play times. I can’t wait to see this place of relaxation.
