My Students

My students love to learn and they are engaged in learning each day. While we are privileged to have a classroom and materials that foster learning, my students could greatly benefit from having dimmed lamps and pillows to aid in the comfort of students while learning. Having these materials will allow engagement in learning in a completely different way.

Our urban elementary school is in the highest poverty, with 100% of our students K-6 receiving free breakfast and lunch each day.

Our school is also a Title I funded school. We have the privilege of receiving reading interventions and grants that help our students improve reading skills. My students face struggles in their everyday lives, and for many of my students the safest, most reliable place in their lives is school. My students work hard, understand the value of their education, and are eager to learn. My students deserve the very best!

My Project

I would like to make my classroom environment more calm and relaxing. My plan is to turn off the classroom lights which are extremely bright and replace the lighting with multiple lamps in our classroom. This will cause the environment to be a bit more relaxing. I would also like to provide my students with more pillows to lean on while reading. If my students can get comfortable while learning then I believe they will be more engaged in class and with their education. Please help me get our students more engaged so that they can continue to excel academically.
