My Students
My project is inspired by my students and their need to be have cooperative and flexible work spaces in the classroom. I want to make our classroom space easily adaptable to work cooperatively and comfortably.
My students are a second and third grade, multi-age group, and come from diverse backgrounds.
We are at a public, K-8, large city school with many needs. Our students love coming to school and thoroughly enjoy sharing their learning and creating new ideas. We use an integrated arts curriculum with all students. Our art teachers collaborate with classroom teachers in bringing meaningful content to our students. We all work together to engage our students to see the whole picture.
My Project
We need a comfortable chair and couch to help make our space more cozy and inviting. My students like to arrange themselves around the room during our reading block and I would love to add a couch and chair to help make our classroom even cozier. Getting comfortable during reading helps students sustain attention for longer. This space will also help students to be more comfortable in class which we always want to do.
Reading spaces and working spaces that provide a collaborative space are ideal in classrooms.
I want my students to sit together and discuss their learning. Adding a couch and chair to the mix of spaces will create another collaborative, cozy space for all.
