This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Talk about diverse community. My students represent various ethnic backgrounds coming from different countries, and different learning styles and needs. My students are special because despite what society perceives them as needs and to be challenged (in language, academic, and social areas); they are the sponge that absorbs learning just like the students I worked with before. They are kids who are excited about life and the world of learning. The only difference is they need something more and different. That's where you come in.

Students I work with are identified as English Language Learners from various ethnic backgrounds; with special needs in grades K-5 in an elementary school in the high needs area of the Bronx.

My Project

With carpet squares my students will have a comfortable and productive learning environment. My students are English Language Learners with Special Needs. There are many hours in the day and we do varied activities both in group, partnership and individual work. Having carpet squares will allow my students to have flexible seating around the classroom so they can learn better.

Carpet squares will encourage individual work, partnered work, and group work while letting students be engaged in variety of activities from independent reading, work on group projects, and mini-lessons and whole group instruction.

Carpet squares will also offer alternative seating arrangements for students who require varied learning environments. Carpet squares will provide space to discover, community build, play and share.

We are in dire need of these carpet squares. Carpet squares will provide the opportunity for more in-depth teaching and learning by giving an alternative space in the classroom where students feel they can concentrate and delve into what we are learning.
