Help me give my students comfortable floor seats and portable desks for our return to class to help us stay safe and separate. In the future, these items will provide my kids with seating for reading and writing.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic kids eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!
My students are excited to come to school to explore, learn and grow.
I am working to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, especially during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science, and social studies.
My Project
Our entire student body will be returning to the classroom, and our classrooms were not designed with Covid in mind. The rooms are small and the tables are too big to allow half our children to be 3 feet apart and still sit at tables. So, we need to improvise and find a personal learning space for every child. We will need comfortable floor seating to allow an entire class to learn in one room while remaining a safe distance apart. And the berber carpet floor is hard.
With these cushioned seats and lap desks, I will be able to create choice seating for my students that is comfortable for reading time and for a 6 hour day on the floor.
These flexible chairs and sturdy lap desks will give my students a personal space for learning to read and write in our kindergarten classroom.
When we have made it through this pandemic, these chairs and lap desks will be a wonderful option for our reading time and writing lessons. I am hoping to get these items in my classroom for this dual purpose, both for the present time and for after the pandemic is over.
