My students need flexible seating whether it is a table and stools for small group, fidget bands to help focus in desks, or rug and pillows for when they need a minute to themselves.
I am a teacher on a military base. My students face the daily hardships of the military life. We have parents deploying, students moving from place to place, and many low-income households. Knowing this makes me want to give my students a comfortable and safe place to learn and get what they need.
Luckily, my students are resilient!
They have created their own community of peers that help each other. My students welcome newcomers with excitement and understanding; they have all gone through the same things. Despite the struggles they face, they come to school ready to learn. I hope to add a little more to the classroom to aid in their learning.
My Project
Having multiple seating options for my students will give them options for learning, group work, and time to themselves. The table and stools will give us space for small group work to close the academic gap of students caused by having missed school due to moving. The seats and bands will help them be more comfortable so that they can focus. The rug and pillow will be a safe place when a student needs a moment to themselves away from everything.
