Comfortable and Flexible Seating

My students need comfortable seating options to fit their learning styles. These rocking chairs will provide another flexible seating option in my classroom.

My Students

Many students in my classroom have special needs and unique learning disabilities. Some of the disabilities include autism, intellectual disabilities, and learning disabilities in the areas of math and reading.

The students in my classroom are hard workers, communicators, questioners, and very imaginative.

They love to share ideas. They are a very diverse group with many different learning needs, who challenge me to be the best teacher I can be.

Many of my families qualify for free and reduced price lunch. Because of that, I want to do what I can to help them feel successful while in school. Often times, students from low socioeconomic households do not receive the support at home that's necessary to help them become successful in their schooling. When they enter my classroom, they become my family for the year. I take them under my wings, give them the love, encouragement, and support they need to soar.

My Project

I've noticed that many of my third graders are often fidgety during class instruction time. Quite frequently, they shift in their seats, becoming antsy, and are unable to concentrate or focus.

A donation to this project will go toward the purchase of Cushioned Rocking Chairs, which will help improve student focus and concentration and to create a learning environment that is student-centered and innovative.

Many times, my students will stand at their desks and routinely ask if they're allowed to work on the floor. In an attempt to re-focus my students, I have implemented flexible seating in my classroom. From sitting on the floor with a cushion, to a comfy chair, to using standing desks, students are able to choose how they want to learn and work, which increases intrinsic motivation and productivity.

I am requesting these rocking chairs to help improve student focus and concentration and to create a learning environment that is student-centered and innovative. This project will provide additional flexible seating options in my classroom.

By providing flexible seating, my students are able to collaborate without distracting the rest of the class while working next to their peers. This creates tolerance among peers and encourages one another to be more accepting of others' needs. My students will have a choice in sitting on the floor with a cushion, to a comfy rocking chair, to using standing desks, students are able to choose how they want to learn and work, which increases intrinsic motivation and productivity.
