Have you ever sat in a desk at school for a couple hours? It is not comfortable. Imagine asking your child to be still and quiet in that one, uncomfortable spot for hours. Flexible seating in our classroom will provide students with the opportunity to be more engaged in their learning while also being comfortable.
Allowing the students to work in a setting that looks and feels more like home will push them to be more engaged, as well as successful in the classroom.
The seating choices will help them to move and wiggle without disrupting the rest of the class and also being comfortable. At the age they are in 4th grade, asking them to sit still in a boring, old desk is asking them for a million dollars. They shouldn't be required to be uncomfortable in order to be engaged. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs tells us that unless a student's needs are met first, they will never learn from us. They need to feel safe, loved, and a sense of belonging before they will ever learn.
Each one of my students deserves the chance at being their best, and I believe this is a way to help them reach that success.
