My Project

As a school counselor servicing students in the early grades I love the curiosity, honesty, and big emotions that they express. As I continue to build an environment that is welcoming, inviting and safe, I am in need of comfortable seating. Comfortable and flexible seating in a school counselor's office is essential for several reasons when focusing on creating a welcoming and safe environment for students. With the comfortable seating I plan to be able to better promote comfort and safety, encourage open communication, help reduce anxiety and promote engagement, support physical and emotional well-being, build trust and rapport, and better facilitate the diverse needs of my students.

Essentially, comfortable seating isn't just about physical comfort; they are tools that can be used for creating a supportive and safe space where students feel secure enough to be vulnerable, explore their emotions, and engage in meaningful conversations, ultimately leading to positive change and growth.

Soft, supportive seating helps students feel at ease. When students feel physically comfortable, they’re more likely to open up emotionally. Comfortable seating also encourages longer and meaningful conversations. Some sessions last more than a few minutes. Comfortable seating prevents distractions from discomfort and keeps the focus on the conversation. Students may come in nervous, upset, or overwhelmed. Cozy seating provides a calming physical environment, signaling that this is a space for support and safety. If students associate the counselor’s office with comfort and care, including how it feels physically, they’re more likely to come back for help when they need it. Students with sensory sensitivities, ADHD, anxiety, or trauma histories may be especially comforted by a space that feels gentle and grounding. Having a thoughtfully furnished space models to students and staff that mental health environments matter, down to the smallest detail.
