Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This is the first time many of my students will spend an entire day in a classroom, and sitting on the floor can feel unfamiliar and uncomfortable. With your help, I’d love to provide soft pillow cushions to help them feel physically at ease, emotionally supported, and ready to learn.
I teach a classroom of bright, energetic young learners who are just beginning their educational journeys.
For many of them, this is their very first experience in a full-day classroom environment. They are learning not only academic skills, but also how to navigate routines, build friendships, and understand their emotions in a structured setting.
Our school serves a diverse population of families, and many students benefit from extra support and resources that make the classroom feel like a welcoming and safe space.
The transition into a full-day school experience can be exciting, but also overwhelming for young learners. Sitting on a hard floor for storytime or morning meetings can be uncomfortable and distracting. These soft, durable pillow cushions will give my students a comfortable place to sit so they can better focus on learning and feel more relaxed in their new environment.
Beyond whole-class routines, the cushions will also be used in our calm-down corner—a safe, supportive space where students can take a break, self-regulate, and return to learning with a refreshed mindset. These cushions will help create a more home-like, nurturing atmosphere that supports both learning and emotional development.
