We are in a high poverty, rural school district where over 80% of my students receive a free or reduced-price lunch.
My students yearn to learn!
They love coming to music class and making music. Making music is a universal joy that can be shared by all students. Playing music is a team "sport" where everyone succeeds and is proud of themselves. We like to show what we know through performance. These instruments will help my students create amazing musical compositions. We sing, dance, and accompany each other on instruments. I am thankful to organizations like DonorsChoose.org and people like you who want to empower our students through the arts!
My Project
I am excited to use the ukulele in the classroom. My students can read, play and write their own music.
The ukulele offers a unique opportunity to differentiate the difficulty of performance based on the students abilities making it equally challenging for my gifted students as well as my students with special needs.
The ukulele offers such a sweet timbre that multiple students can be working of different music at the same time without worrying about the sound level. My students can accompany each other or themselves. The instruments are portable so we can easily transition from the classroom to the stage.
