This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom probably does not sound typical to others! I have students always coming and going constantly throughout the day, and they are at many different levels.

I have started at a new school this year, and all I can really say is my students rock!

My students come from low income families in a 99% Hispanic community and school, which is located within Chicago Public Schools. I teach 3rd-4th grade special education this year, and I have a wide range of disabilities from severely cognitively delayed, emotional disorders, to ADHD. My school is busting at the seems as far as space goes, so I share a "room" with the teachers lounge for my students.

My Project

I am asking for a brand new library full of high interest levels books for my students. I must say that I have never had a group of students that love to look at books as much as they do. They are constantly asking for all different kinds of books, and I want to be able to provide them with what they need and want. The different leveled books are books that my students helped me pick out, with a few surprises that I added as well. I have a great reading area in my classroom, where the kids will be able to sit and read comfortably.

The books will help my students lives by having current, hip, and exciting new books to get them to practice their reading skills.

We are starting a great new phonics program to help with decoding skills, and what better way to celebrate their progress then with a new book?
