Our school is an academically successful, rural high school that is filled to the brim with about 900 wonderful students. We serve our military community. Our students are smart, athletic, and driven to succeed.
In the state's ranking system, our high-performing high school has been ranked as a top ten public high school in NC for eleven consecutive years.
We are proud of our success in the classroom.
On September 13, 2018, our community was hit hard by Hurricane Florence. Again, in 2019, we were hit by Hurricane Dorian. Although the hurricanes might have re-shaped us, they won't define us. Even though the storms seem so long ago, some of us are still in recovery mode. We were "CarteretStrong" then and my students remain that way now: strong, resilient, and flexible. And now, we are dealing with a pandemic and distance learning.
We are still striving to make improvements, including on the athletic field. We are just as competitive there and always looking for an edge.
My Project
Swing, batter batter! Swing, batter batter! Ah, the awesome chants of the softball field in the spring. The pitcher is sizing the batter up and the batter is giving the pitcher the once over. The batter is shaking her bat, getting her stance in the batter's box, and looking menacing as the pitcher decides exactly which pitch to deliver......swing, batter, batter! It's a HIT! Next batter!
Our awesome softball team needs to look a bit more menacing and carry a bigger stick, er, bat.
It's been two years since we have upgraded our bats. We can hardly wait to get this new bat in our arsenal of hitting weapons. This bat is a 2019 model DeMarini that is 33 inches long and ready for the squad to take ownership of it. This project complements another current project on DonorsChoose.org. Technology has improved the hitting power of bats, but our budget for such equipment has shrunk. The price of bats is outrageous! We need help. Outfitting the team with uniforms, paying for coaches and referees, purchasing balls and lesser quality bats takes the bulk of our budget. We have some players who have big swings and could be very successful at the next level; they know that SPORTS MATTER. Won't you help the next batter up?
