What's one iPad divided by 23 students? Impossible! My students love practicing math on the iPad, but with a classroom full of eager minds, it's hard to give everyone adequate time on the tablet. The games and apps provided on the iPad make practicing math facts and learning new skills fun!
I teach an amazing bunch of third graders who love learning, but are often less than confident in their math skills.
Third grade math can be scary with all of it's multiplication, fractions, and subtracting big numbers. How do you borrow and carry the one again? Yikes! I want to make learning math fun and exciting for my students, and most importantly, I want them to feel good about their abilities to tackle math problems. We currently have one first generation iPad that the students share when they are finished with their other assignments. The wait-list for the iPad can get so long, it can be a month before a kid gets their turn on the iPad. With regular iPad screen time, my students can get the practice they need and have fun while APPlying their knowledge.
My Project
I am requesting two iPad Minis with protective cases for my students to use during center time. My students will work in small groups on the iPad to practice math skills we are working on in class. Our small groups consist of six kids each, so with two kids sharing an iPad, all six can get the practice they need during center time.
I want my students to do well in math class, but my most important role as their math teacher is to build confidence in their problem-solving skills.
I tell my students that math matters, not just in the classroom, but throughout our lives. It's everywhere. Having my students practice math with fun and engaging iPad apps is a sure-fire way to motivate and build confidence that will last a life-time.
