Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With 15% of our student population in temporary housing, 40% having disabilities, and 37% learning English as a new language, we are determined to ensure each scholar shines to the brightest of their abilities. The diversity in our school has created scholars who are caring, fearless, accepting, and eager to learn.

My Project

I will be implementing Social Emotional Learning this school year. These materials are much needed after the pandemic. My goal with meditation corner is to support to social emotional needs for all my students. Each item will be used to support their emotional needs. According to Giulietta Harrison and Azwihangwisi Muthivhi, mediation promotes cognitive and emotional development.

My goal for learning outcomes for my mediation corner is for my students to take these coping strategies in the real world.

The items in this corner will introduce different ways to manage their feelings. The bean bag and essential oils can provide my students with a comfortable and calming space to practice breathing techniques. The bubble machine will provide a helpful distraction for my students when either feelings angry, sad and even help them celebrate when they are happy. Lastly, the green carpet will be coupled with the plants that I will be adding to the corner. Plants and greenery are known for their healing properties.
