My students are talented theatre-makers that I want to turn into enthusiastic theatregoers! Every student at my school attends Drama and Music as Resource classes, but most students have few if any experiences attending live theatre to see these lessons applied. My school is a Pre-K through 8 public charter school in Baltimore, MD. Our school is one of the most diverse in the city, serving approximately 814 black, white, and Latino students. Approximately 70% of students are eligible for free lunch.
My Project
Eighth graders will be taking a trip to New York City as a celebration of their accomplishments before they head off to different high schools. With your help, students will be able to attend a production of the phenomenal Broadway musical, COME FROM AWAY. They'll see the best the world of theatre has to offer and understand the intense passion, hard work, and talent it takes to make it on Broadway.
It's hard for students to understand the wonder of live theatre until they experience it for themselves.
This opportunity to see a Broadway show will be the first for many of my students, so it will inspire them to become lifelong theatregoers!
