Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The almost 900 students at our school live in a low-income neighborhood with limited access to basic school supplies. We are a Title I school with almost all of the students qualifying for free breakfast and free lunch each day.

Although my students have limited access to resources, they are enthusiastic to come to school each day to learn many new standards.

I look forward to giving my students many of the much-needed supplies this year by asking the generous donors of DonorsChoose.org to provide these supplies.

My Project

During the last two school years, my students have had an opportunity to watch butterflies grow from larvae, into a chrysalis, and morph into Monarch Butterflies. They have been fascinated watching butterflies in the life cycle.

I would like to be able to give my students the opportunity to have a live larvae on each of their desks so that they can watch and grow the larvae into Monarchs over the next three weeks.

Each student will be given one larvae and then document its progress over three weeks as it forms a chrysalis and then emerges as a butterfly.

The pocket chart will help me to teach the second language learners the vocabulary of the butterfly life cycle as well as see photos in the various paperback books I would like to have for our classroom. Thank you for considering our butterfly project.
