My students need pencils sharpeners and erasers. They work so hard. If you ask me, using a dull pencil is pointless!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
On an average year, I have about 22 students. My classroom often includes Non- Limited English Proficiency students, Biligual students(Spanish as their first language), newcomers from Mexico, Special Education students, Dyslexic students, 504 students, Behavioral Intervention students, and Gifted and Talented students. I treat all my students fairly and I have very high expectations for each and everyone of them. I love how diverse my classroom is. This year, I had a newcomer from Mexico. We will call him G. G didn’t speak a drop of English. His parents called me the first week of school extreme concerned because they feared his language would hinder his success. Needless to say after targeting vocabulary and giving G the opportunity to use the English language in class discussions as well as many other interventions, G was reading, speaking, and writing in an advanced level of English. At the end of they year, he received academic awards for his grades. He gained over 150 Accelerated reader Points and obtained a 92% average. His parents expressed how grateful they were and how they knew that G and I had made an amazing team.
My Project
A simple joy in life is to begin writing with a freshly sharpened pencil. Last year, our class went through numerous pencil sharpeners as well as erasers.
I would often notice students writing with extremely dull pencils or trying to erase with the last bit of eraser left.
See my students work extra hard. A new sharpener and extra erasers would really be appreciated.
Some students are already struggling academically and the last thing on their mind should be to have to worry about not finding their eraser to start their math problem again since he/she could not find the answer.
