Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Students in my class enjoy having books read to them. It was in my mid thirties, after my husband died, that I decided to go back to college. I wanted to be a teacher ever since my first teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up. There were many wonderful teachers in my life, however, there was this one in particular that touched my life forever. This special teacher was my third grade teacher. I now teach third grade at that same school. These students need someone special in their lives. I want to offer my students a safe and enjoyable environment in which to learn.

We need a rug and bookshelf for a reading center. Students often sit on the floor to read a book selected from a bucket. It would be wonderful to have a rug and bookshelf.

We have tile floors in our classroom which can be hard and cold. A rug would be wonderful to sit on for reading and sharing stories.

Your help will make it possible for my students to really enjoy reading time. It is through people such as yourself who keep me realizing that there is good in this world.
