Combining Creativity and Science through 3-D Printing

My Students

Many of our students exist in generational poverty and have challenging barriers to overcome in their personal lives in order to be successful. We are a multicultural school in SD, and we have a 100% free lunch program. Many of our students are members of the Yankton Sioux Tribe in our district, and we believe that our students are amazing and precious. We are unique in that our district houses students in grades PreK-12 all in one building.

Many of our students get quarantined multiple times at home for two weeks each time away from an educational setting.

Our whole district just spent two weeks at home due to our community's high positive cases. Getting students excited about learning when they come back to school after they have been at home quarantined is a huge challenge for us as educators.

My Project

Many of our students lose interest in school as they become quarantined or our school shuts down for weeks at a time. They need some new inspiration to become excited about their education in these challenging times. The use of a 3-D scanner will allow students to learn about science with new and exciting challenges they can embrace.

Our students will thrive as they use their own creativity with this new technology to learn about science in a brand new world.

We feel that our students will look forward to coming back to school as we turn our science curriculum into an adventure. Quarantined students at home can use programs and work through live teaching to work with their creations. We feel that now is the time to teach students in a new way for the new technological world that we live in.
